Moisture Sensor

About 50% of home water usage goes towards the lawn. There is no real benefit to over-watering. In fact, it weakens the grass. Excess moisture gives the grass no incentive to grow deeper roots. This leaves your grass open to pests and disease.

Most people over-water simply because they do not know any better. How much water does your lawn need? If you don't know the answer to that question, then you should consider installing a moisture sensor.

50%!? Does that shock anyone but me?

I rarely water my lawn. I water my plants on the front porch and I water my gardens. It has to be near drout conditions, and I'm wanting green grass for a get together, before I water the lawn. I was tempted to water my shade grass under my trees in front a week ago, but it rained.

Certainly shocks me!!! I think 50% of our water usage comes from either me watering the garden, or me running the faucet when I brush my teeth, or do dishes. lol

I let God water my yard! He seems to do a good job of it, mostly. But we don't supplement.

We never water our yard, of course there isn't much grass there - mostly weeds right now, lol...
In the next few years we will be converting it all to raised beds for vegetables, herbs and flowers....

Besides, we have to make cuts somewhere, and as my grocery budget is already down to $75 a week, and we conserve on electricity and water like no one I know, cutting back on cleaners is a painless cut...
